Building Media developed a self-paced online training program to teach architects and engineers about the fundamentals of designing and operating energy-efficient, high-performance K-12 schools. Deane Evans, an architect and educator from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, presents the 25-course internet-based multi-media training curriculum. Courses cover in-depth topics including site design, lighting and electrical systems, water conservation, mechanical and ventilation systems, and many others. Course participants also take an interactive test, which may qualify for continuing education credit.
This project demonstrated BMI's collaborative capabilities, since BMI developed the online training program in partnership with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. The U.S. Department of Energy and the National Association of State Energy Officials provided funding. The development team also included the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council, Collaborative for High Performance Schools, the New Jersey Institute of Technology and others.
