(July 1, 2006, Seattle, WA) - Building Media Inc. (BMI) has completed development of an online training course on sustainable development for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC).
NAVFAC'S team of highly qualified engineers and architects provides technical guidance associated with facilities design, construction and maintenance criteria. Staff is responsible for the technical adequacy of criteria used to build all Navy shore facilities.
The Navy requires that its building projects incorporate sustainable development concepts and principles in their planning, programming, design, construction, operation and maintenance. Project acquisition teams are also required to use the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System as a planning, programming and design tool.
The multimedia, online modular training course and web site developed by BMI provides an overview of sustainable development concepts and principles. Topics covered in the comprehensive course include sustainable development, whole building design, integrated design, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality and others.
The system allows 24/7 access to online courses. Participants complete self-paced online testing to meet completion requirements.
