(April 27, 2006, Seattle, WA) - Building Media, Inc. has launched a timely and much-needed educational program to promote better building practices in areas subject to hurricane force winds.
The Hurricane-Resistant Construction Project is a sponsor-driven education program focused on hurricane and flood resistant construction codes and best building practices. The program targets builders and remodelers of single-family homes in hurricane-affected areas of the Gulf and Atlantic coastal states.
Building Media, Inc. has taken the lead by developing four elements of the innovative program:
- Hurricane Construction Network, a web-based, online information clearing house and Help Center, is sponsored and staffed by a consortium of manufacturers, building science educators and government agencies.
- LaHouse LIVE is a day-long sponsored workshop which will be held July 14, 2006 at the LaHouse Resource Center on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge, LA. There, hands-on demonstrations will showcase hurricane-resistant construction practices.
- Code College Network is an internet-based video training program to help building and design professionals learn about building technology, code requirements and building products.
- Hurricane-Resistant Construction Guidebook is a building code reference for builders in hurricane country. This graphics-oriented guide will make it easier than ever to identify building and energy code requirements and adhere to better building practices in high-wind zones.
The Hurricane-Resistant Construction Project is an ongoing initiative offering one-year sponsorship opportunities for product manufacturers, public agencies and other entities dedicated to promoting better building practices in hurricane affected regions.
