The Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) requires that building projects incorporate sustainable development concepts and principles. Project acquisition teams are also required to use the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) Green Building Rating System as a planning, programming and design tool.

NAVFAC needed an online training site to help its building professionals familiarize themselves with their requirements; they also needed to provide participants with flexible 24/7 access to online courses. The multimedia, online modular training course and web site provides an overview of sustainable development concepts and principles for NAVFAC building professionals. Topics include sustainable development, whole building design, integrated design, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality and others.
