December 18, 2009, Seattle, WA - As the market for environmentally-sensitive construction continues to build, so does the need for certified green building professionals. That's why the Green Building Initiative worked with Building Media Inc. (BMI) to launch the online accreditation program for the Green Globes environmental building assessment tool.
Green Globes is an assessment tool for green building design, operation and management. The Green Globes Professional designation recognizes proficiency in the Green Globes program and related green building activities, such as energy modeling, life cycle assessment and the Energy Star benchmarking tool.
According to Green Building Initiative, the Green Globes Professional credential supports the growth and adoption of sustainable building practices in the United States, with a specific focus on the Green Globes environmental assessment and rating system for commercial buildings, both new construction and repair/remodel.
The Green Building Initiative hired BMI to develop the comprehensive online Green Globes Professional certification program. Curriculum covers green building concepts, Green Globes assessment protocols, Green Globes rating and certification, and case studies. Each lesson includes an online video presentation, study guide and quiz; the course also includes a final certification test. Building professionals who successfully complete the course and pass the final test become Green Globe Certified.
Interest in certification has been high, with more than 100 design professionals signing up for the Green Globes Professional accreditation course within the first week of the site's launch.
